A California tree trimmer was found guilty in five brutal throat-
slashing attacks that left three people dead in the span of two
months, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Ryan Blinston, 37, was convicted by a jury in Butte County of
murder, attempted murder and arson, the Tehama County District
Attorney’s office said.

The Orville, California, serial killer faces a mandatory
sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Blinston was working for a tree-trimming service when in May and
June 2020, he returned to his clients’ homes in Butte and Tehama
counties, north of Sacramento, after the work was completed and
slit the throats of the residents, prosecutors said.

In May 2020, he attacked Loreen Severs, 88, of Los Molinos in
Tehama County and her husband, Homer Severs, 91. Homer survived
the attack but died that December of an unrelated illness,
authorities said.

Blinston was also charged in the killing of Sandra George, 82,
and an acquaintance, Vicky Cline, 57, both of Oroville in Butte
County. He was also charged with torching Cline’s car.

Cline’s body was found by fishermen in the Feather River near
Belden on June 21.

“Damage to her throat was consistent with the other victims,”
prosecutors said.

Blinston was arrested before dawn on June 14, 2020 — about a
week after Cline vanished — by a Butte County sheriff’s SWAT
team that had tracked him to a motorhome in heavily wooded and
isolated Brush Creek, where authorities planned to arrest him on
suspicion of burning Cline’s car, prosecutors said.

The team approached the motorhome and heard the muffled screams
of a man inside and loud banging. The banging turned out to be
Blinston attempting to break into the motorhome with a hatchet,
prosecutors said.

Blinston fled into the woods, refused to drop the hatchet and
was captured after cops deployed a stun gun and pepper spray to
subdue him during a brief tussle.

Blinston had met the 50-year-old owner of the motorhome and then
stayed over because he told the man he was afraid to leave after
dark because of bears, the resident told authorities.

The man said he was sleeping when he awoke to find Blinston
attacking him with a knife, prosecutors said.

Blinston slashed his neck but the man said he was able to kick
him out of the motorhome and lock the door. A medic treated the
seriously injured man and he was airlifted to a hospital, they
said.

The SWAT team may have saved the man’s life, prosecutors said,
because the isolated area had no cellphone service and it was
unlikely anyone would have heard the man’s cries for help.

Prosecutors didn’t mention a motive for the crimes other than to
say robbery was not a motivating factor.

Suffolk County police released a trio of 911 calls Friday from
the night Shannan Gilbert went missing in the Gilgo Beach area
more than a decade ago — providing some insight into her final
moments.

A troubled and confused Gilbert repeatedly claims to dispatchers
early on May 1, 2010, “something is going to happen to me” and
pleads with two men, “Please get me out of here … I just want to
go home.”

Gilbert, a Craigslist sex worker from Jersey City, NJ, was out
on Long Island that night meeting a client, Joseph Brewer, at
his home in the Oak Beach Association with her driver, Michael
Pak, police said.

At one point, Gilbert started acting “irrationally” and Brewer
asked Pak to have her leave, which appears to be when she made
the 911 calls.

“Please stop it. What are you going to do to me?” she says as a
dispatcher repeatedly asks where she is calling from.

“I’m on Long Island,” Gilbert says numerous times, but was
confused as to why she was in the man’s house.

“There’s somebody after me, I don’t know where I am. I am inside
a house. I don’t know where I am. Can you trace where I am?”
Gilbert says on the call.

“These people are trying to kill me,” she says at one point, to
which a man responds playfully, “Shut up,” and laughs.

She eventually ran from the house and knocked on several doors
in the neighborhood, interacting with two neighbors, before
disappearing, cops said.

Both neighbors also called police and could be heard in 911
calls reporting that they saw the troubled woman. One man said
she looked like a 14-year-old child, while a woman said she was
afraid to let her into her home.

As police scoured the nearby area for Gilbert, they discovered
the dumping grounds of a serial killer or killers with the
remains of nine others, seven women, a man and a toddler,

While the details of how Gilbert disappeared were unclear,
detectives believe her death was an “unfortunate accident” and
not connected to the Gilgo Beach murders. Investigators believe
there may be between 10 and 16 victims of the area’s possible
serial-killer homicides, half of whom apparently worked as
prostitutes, cops said.

“Based on the evidence, the facts, and the totality of the
circumstances, the prevailing opinion in Shannan’s death, while
tragic, was not a murder and was most likely noncriminal,”
Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said at a
news conference Friday, according to ABC7.

Police also said they interviewed Brewer and Pak and determined
they were not responsible for Gilbert’s death.

Harrison, the former chief of department at the NYPD, has
renewed focus on hunting down the Long Island serial killer
since taking over the Suffolk department, creating a new task
force and releasing additional evidence in hopes it will develop
new leads.

The Gilbert family sued for the release of the calls in 2020,
with a judge later only ordering cops to turn over the
recordings to the family.

Harrison promised to release the tapes after becoming the
county’s top cop in January.

A social media influencer is facing charges after the Troup
County Sheriff’s Office says a video appeared to show a woman
expose herself to minors at a swimming pool.

On June 28, a video began circulating on TikTok. The video
appeared to show a woman exposing her breasts to two young boys
in a swimming pool.

“While we understand the emotions that this video caused, we
always take our time when investigating any case, especially of
one originating on social media,” Troup County Sheriff James
Woodruff said in a news release.

After their investigation, Troup County deputies determined the
alleged incident occurred in Pike County.

The Pike County Sheriffs Office conducted an investigation into
several complaints about the video.

Pike County investigators say Kylie Strickland, 30, was reported
to have been at a home where she was accused of exposing her
breasts to two minors while streaming live on social media.

Strickland, of LaGrange, was arrested on a warrant for computer
or electronic pornography and child exploitation, according to
the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.
